OUSE VALLEY (SUSSEX) FLYFISHERS

An evening at Arlington - 14th June 2001

In June we had another go at finding the appropriate conditions to fish top of the water tactics at Arlington. We chose 14th June, hoping to avoid the howling gale that greeted us on midsummers day last year. On this occasion the wind was a light southerly and it was overcast with light rain. The only drawback was that we were in the middle of a low pressure system nearly always a killer for trout fishing.

There was an eerie feel to the evening, no insects and no birds, and although the conditions looked right, almost no fish were rising. Those in boats struggled and did not land a fish, and off the bank Martin and Rowena Nock each landed a fish. On the night a very notable achievement.
